To get more involved or contribute, go to foreyouth.org

Since it opened in 1962, the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course has thrived as a center for aspiring golfers and building community.

The Fore Youth: 2023 U.S. Open Community Legacy campaign, led by the SCGA, USGA and The Los Angeles Country Club (LACC), has raised over $8M for the project to create a community legacy benefiting underserved and underrepresented youth.

The Maggie Hathaway course is a County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation facility, and in October 2024, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an investment of $7.8 million from the 2024-2025 Supplemental Budget for its renovation.

This proposed project will provide new and improved facilities and resources, while honoring the trailblazing legacy of performing artist, community activist, and golf pioneer, Maggie Hathaway.

The Proposed Renewal Project:

  • Renovated Golf Course, Enhanced Driving Range, Practice Facilities, and new Landscaping

  • New Clubhouse with Community Center + Youth Enrichment Lab + Golf Shop

  • Expanded Junior Golf Programming

Announcements

May 2025:  We are happy to share that the six bunkers have all been shaped and fitted with a completed drainage system. A bunker liner has been installed, consisting of two inches of gravel topped with a sprayed polymer. This modern liner helps keep the bunker sand clean, allows it to play drier, and prevents washouts during heavy rain.

The first shipment of sod is expected to arrive and be installed during the week of May 19. Meanwhile, sand is being worked into the top four inches of soil to improve its structure, enhance water infiltration, and create a healthier growing environment for turf.

March 2025: Considerable progress has been achieved on the golf course, with key enhancements to the greens, bunkers, and irrigation.

Shaping is complete for all nine greens. The excavator is finishing the floor of the bunker here at 6 green prior to the drainage system installation.

Six greens have drainage complete. The plastic drainage pipe is perforated, surrounded by special gravel that keeps the sand from plugging the drainage slits, as seen in this photo from 1 green.

Greensmix has been installed on four greens including 3 green in the above photo. 4" of gravel uniformly covers the drainage lines and floor of the green.

Above is the new bunker on the right side of 3 green. Bunker shaping is nearly complete with the team beginning to detail work on the perimeters and drainage on the floor.

Mainline installation of the irrigation will be completed in the first two weeks of April and controller installation is beginning. A new backflow device has been installed at the point of connection on the northeast corner of the property.

February 2025: Golf course construction is moving along, with the tree trimming and removals. Architect Gil Hanse was onsite shaping greens on holes 1 and 3, which look like they are going to be fun and challenging. The team is continuing the shaping which will bring the new course layout to life.
